WebJul 21, 2024 · This shows that there are arbitrarily long prime gaps, and so out along the list of natural numbers there are places where the closest primes are 100, or 1,000, or even 1,000,000,000 numbers apart. A classic tension can be seen in these results. There are infinitely many prime numbers, yet consecutive primes can also be infinitely far apart. WebFor example.. In binary all prime numbers except 2 begin and end with 1. The first 2 binary digits of the prime 71 is the prime 3 and the last 5 binary digits is the prime 17. So we …

WebMar 18, 2007 · @Makovec: You and several other people don’t seem to understand what a prime number is. A prime number is not an odd number. The number 21 would match your simplified regexp because it is odd (ends in 1, matching your expression) but it should FAIL the prime number check because it has factors 3 and 7 (3×7=21). WebIf that fails (if our number is odd), then it will go back and add another “1” to the bit inside the parentheses and try to match anything that is a multiple of “111”. If our regex ever returns true for a match, that means that our number is 1) a 0 or a 1, or 2) a multiple of a number larger than 1. That means that it is not (i.e. !) prime!
