[ 1] It is a bifunctional carbohydrate, which exhibits antioxidant property. PEP may be a potential organ preservation agent in clinical transplantation. [ 2] WebPhosphoenolpyruvate Carboxykinase (PEPCK) Renal PEPCK is a cytosolic enzyme that is the product of the PCK1 gene. In the kidney, as in extrarenal sites, including liver, adipose tissue, and small intestine, PEPCK is a key enzyme in gluconeogenesis through its role in conversion of oxaloacetate into PEP and CO2.
